MySpace used to be the end all and be all of social networking. Now it is just bands telling other bands about their shows. It has gone by the wayside and very few individuals even bother logging into their accounts any more. Twitter is quickly becoming the next MySpace. Look at your feeds. Is is social networking experts talking to other social network experts about the next big scheme?
The way you build a solid base on Twitter is not to just run out and get as many people following you as you can. The key is to make people want to follow you! How do you achieve this? First off, don't spam. Let me repeat that, do not spam people. Did I mention that spamming people is bad? People get enough spam. They don't want to see it from you.
If you read an article you think will help someone, tweet about it. If you wrote an article that might help someone, tweet about it. If you have a product that might be useful to someone, tweet about it. But the most important tweet is engaging someone in conversation. Just saying hello goes a long way. You don't automaticly have respect when you start your Twitter account. You have to build respect and earn trust so that when you do have something to share it doesn't just get ignored.
